In this painting demonstration I will show you how you can create of light in a seascape painting. This painting is inspired by a place called Owhiro Bay on the coast of Wellington in New Zealand. The beach is south facing and as it is in the southern hemisphere the sun shines from the north and directly onto the breaking waves.
Breaking waves are easier to paint when they are backlit but they can still look great in paintings even when the sun is shining on them. In this painting I have used a spotlight effect to emphasise the breaking wave. The foreground is in a half shadow from a cloud. The cliffs in the mid ground are also light with part shade. This also adds interest to the painting.
In the painting blog I will show you how to paint this rocky shore seascape.
This painting is inspired by the Central Coast area in Australia but really, as this painting is more about the sea and the rocks, the location could be anywhere.
In this blog post I will show you how to paint this beautiful countryside scene and I will give you some tips on mixing greens that you would typically find in the landscape.
This painting is inspired by the Northland Region of New Zealand.
This painting originally started as a plein air painting, then I added more detail to it in the studio.
In this written painting tutorial I show you how to paint this mountain landscape that features a cool mountain stream. The location is Mt Talbot in Fiordland National Park in southern New Zealand and it is a scene I have painted many times before as it is such epic landscape to paint.
In this written painting tutorial I will show you how to paint this countryside scene. This painting originally started off as a plein air painting but after being sat on my shelf for a year I decided to add some detail to it.
In this painting tutorial I will show you how to paint this countryside scene which features trees and rolling hills. I painted this art work in oils but you can use acrylics instead.
I have provided a couple of reference photos if you would like to have a go at painting this.
In this painting demonstration I will show you how to paint a street scene. The art work that is featured in this tutorial was originally painted outdoors en plein air and features a typical Australian suburban street.
In this blog post I show you how to draw a coastal landscape. Sketching and drawing is an important part of my painting process as I use the sketching process to create engaging compositions and design paintings. It also helps to give me an idea of the tonality of the landscape I would like to paint.
